Dear Oak Street school community,
Happy month of May! I can’t believe we are already in week 8 of school closures. I would like to commend all of you for continuing to hang in there and supporting your child through continuity of learning in addition to all the other personal priorities you have. I know that all of this can take a toll on our overall wellness and well-being.
Maintaining Mental Health & Well-Being
May is Mental Health Awareness month. IUSD joins the national movement with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to raise awareness about mental health. We believe in the importance of fighting stigma and providing support to students.
Following the “Safer At Home” orders can be demanding on many levels. “Coping with Stress During Infectious Disease Outbreaks” is a wonderful resource available from the Department of Mental Health that provides strategies to maintain our well-being during these stressful times. Numerous additional tools for maintaining mental health can be found at www.dmh.lacounty.gov/. Our school counselor is available to check in with your child. Additional Reminders & Updates:
- IUSD has been distributing laptop devices to all students who have indicated that they do not have a device at home. If your child needs a device and has not received one, please contact your child’s teacher me at [email protected].
- Our Continuity of Learning webpage is available for you and your child to continue their learning at home. Please continue to access the resources and activities. To assist you in supporting your child and understanding the role of your child’s teacher(s), you will receive a letter outlining the details of the IUSD Continuity of Learning plan.
- Food Distribution sites and details can be found on our IUSD website at inglewoodusd.com. Please continue to take advantage of this resource.
- Our second virtual IUSD Board Meeting will be next Wednesday, May 6, at 5 pm. We invite you to visit our website at inglewoodusd.com for more information for the upcoming Board Meetings.
- In the coming weeks, we will be launching a physical fitness challenge as part of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. We hope you and your family will participate in staying physically active to support overall wellness.
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4 - 8
Finally, we know that continuity of learning could not be possible without our amazing teachers. This week, please join me as we recognize and celebrate our teachers and staff during the week of May 4-8, 2020, which is National Teacher Appreciation Week. We are grateful for our dedicated teachers and all staff, especially during these uncertain times, who continue to support and uplift our children.
During this week, we would love to see every IUSD student make a beautiful sign or poster thanking the great teachers in our district and posting it in one of your windows that faces the street. I’m sure these signs and posters will bring a smile to teachers who see them as they are driving through our community. If you take photos of your children with signs or posters recognizing their teachers, please be sure to hashtag #WeAreInglewoodUnified.

Lego Give-Away
Inglewood Unified and Oak Street Elementary thanks Inner City Education Foundation for their awesome donation of LEGO toy boxes that were distributed at our meal distribution locations! Oak Street Elementary was given 80 boxes of legos that and those were donated to families during the meal distribution. Click here for a link to the social media post from the City of Inglewood.

¡Feliz mes de mayo! No puedo creer que ya estamos en la semana 8 de cierre de escuelas. Me gustaría felicitarlos a todos por continuar apoyando a su hijo a través de la continuidad del aprendizaje, además de todas las otras prioridades personales que tienen.
