Dear Oak Street School community,

With April coming to a close, I am continuing to reflect on how these challenging times have impacted us as a school community. We miss seeing your child’s smiling face. While our campus is closed, we are still teaching, learning, and providing support to you and your child. We are continuing to learn to be flexible and creative.  

Connecting with one another has been more important than ever. Even though we are all practicing social distancing, let’s not forget to find creative ways to connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and just be with one another virtually. Our priority is to personally make contact with all of our students and check-in to make sure everyone is doing well. We will continue to make every effort to reach out to all of you. 

Here are some updates for the week:

Music Lessons

This week, I am adding four music lessons on our school website that were created by our Music Teacher Mr. Josh Wen, from Education Through Music – Los Angeles. The lessons can be found at https://oakstreet.inglewoodusd.com/ in the middle section under Latest News. You can also click on the hyperlinks on this notice for a link to the videos directly. I hope you enjoy these interactive music lessons.

Mr. Josh has two music lessons for primary age students: Ta and Ta Rest: Naught Kitty Cat and a read-aloud called Drum Dream Girl. Mr. Josh also posted two music lessons for upper-grade students: Audio and MIDI and Drum Machines.

Technology

While IUSD has closed its school campuses through the end of the school year, the District is committed to maintaining continuity of learning for all students. IUSD has been distributing laptop devices to all students who have indicated that they do not have a device at home. If your child needs a device and has not received one, please contact your child’s teacher or me.  

Access to Internet 

In addition to providing a device, the District is partnering with the City of Inglewood’s Mayor James Butts and Spectrum, an internet provider in the Inglewood area, to ensure that our students have internet access through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.  In order to be eligible for free internet access, families need to meet the criteria. More information, details, and a form can be found in a letter you will be receiving in the mail. You may also access the letter on our website at www.inglewoodusd.com under COVID-19 Updates and click on Authorized form – Spectrum Internet Services.  For assistance in filling out the form, please contact the IUSD IT Help Desk between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at (310) 680-5100.   

Here are Additional Reminders & Updates: 

•  Inglewood Unified School District is continuing to provide meals to children and food for families. Food Distribution sites and details can be found on our IUSD website atinglewoodusd.com. Please continue to take advantage of this resource.
• Our Continuity of Learning webpage is available for you and your child to continue their learning at home. Please continue to access the resources and activities. This past week, we conducted our first IUSD Board Meeting. We encourage you to visit our website at inglewoodusd.com for recordings of past meetings and dates for upcoming Board Meetings.

Estimada comunidad de la Primaria de Oak Street,

Con el final de abril, sigo reflexionando sobre cómo estos tiempos difíciles nos han impactado como comunidad escolar. Extrañamos ver la cara sonriente de su hijo. Mientras nuestro campus está cerrado, todavía estamos enseñando, aprendiendo y brindando apoyo para usted y su hijo. Continuamos aprendiendo a ser flexibles y creativos. 

Conectarse unos con otros ha sido más importante que nunca. A pesar de que todos estamos practicando el distanciamiento social, no olvidemos encontrar formas creativas de conectarnos, celebrar hitos y simplemente estar virtualmente el uno con el otro. Nuestra prioridad es contactarnos personalmente con todos nuestros estudiantes y registrarnos para asegurarnos de que todos estén bien. Continuaremos haciendo todo lo posible para llegar a todos ustedes.

Lecciones De Musica

Esta semana, agrego cuatro lecciones de música en el sitio web de nuestra escuela que fueron creadas por nuestro maestro de música, el Sr. Josh Wen, de Education Through Music - Los Angeles. Tecnología

Mientras el IUSD ha cerrado sus planteles hasta el fin del año escolar, el Distrito se compromete a mantenerla continuidad de aprendizaje para todos los estudiantes. IUSD ha estado distribuyendo computadoras portátiles a todos los estudiantes que han indicado que no tienen una computadora en casa.
